Decision Making and Leadership

Effective decision-making can be seen as an optimal link between memory of the past, ground-realities of the present and insights of the future.
— Amit Ray

Objectivity is the recognition that reality exists independent of our consciousness, whims, and wishes. Of course, knowledge of reality is not automatically available and can only be obtained by a conscious process of observation and logic.

The tools we use to discover reality and the decisions we make about our actions must be grounded in what is if we are to project what we want into the future and achieve our desired ends. These are critical to effective leadership.

Decision making skills and knowledge are critical leadership tools for business and organizational success. Poor tools and skills are costly, inefficient, and ineffective. A good decision-making process can lead to better results.

Decision-making is a thoughtful practice that can be learned and applied to different situations, whether in our personal, organizational, or community lives. Engaging our minds to discover reality is a conscious choice, and thoughtful conscious decision-making is a learned skill that can improve our performance, make us more efficient and effective, and help us to transform even the most difficult situations into opportunities for growth.

Good leadership calls for excellent decision making, as well as a bias for action, an ability to motivate others, a drive for impact, and a capacity to deliver results.

In my interactive, decision-making workshops, participants learn:

  • to discover the facts and to place reality in the driver's seat

  • to avoid wishes, whims, and obvious bias when making critical decisions

  • the tools and techniques for separating facts from opinion and reality from illusion

  • how to assess leadership characteristics and cultivate excellent leadership qualities
